Emmanuel Mudiay Skips College to Sign Pro in China for Reported $1.2m

After announcing last week that he would skip playing college basketball at Southern Methodist to turn pro, heralded recruit Emmanuel Mudiay has reportedly reached an agreement with the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the China Basketball Association worth $1.2m for a year.

Mudiay, a projected lottery pick in the 2015 NBA draft, is the most notable player to turn pro straight out of high school instead of going to college since Brandon Jennings who headed to Italy in 2008 instead of suiting up for Arizona.

“He’ll be able to athletically overwhelm other players in China, but the key with him will be socially,” a coach who was previously in China told ESPN.com. “That won’t be easy.”

The 6-foot-5 Mudiay was considered a one-and-done possibility at SMU and also a potential No. 1 pick in the 2015 NBA draft.
